The situation was finally rectified right on half time when No 8 Gavin Holder bust up field, off loaded to Andre Itula who in turn passed to Filisoni Pauta who scored for an unconverted try in the corner to make the half time score 24 – 7 to the Cockatoos.
Both coaches gave their respective teams a rev up during the break, as ASRU came out firing in the second half and immediately put the Cockatoos under pressure. However, they were overzealous on several occasions and the Cockatoos were able to weather the storm.
Five minutes into the half the Cockatoos won a lineout phone number library against the throw and prop James Smith stormed up field to start a great passage of play which saw Filisoni Patua cross for a converted try after the ball had been handled by flanker Josh Stewart and five eight Ben Greentree to increase the lead to 31 – 7.Three minutes later Gavin Holder took the ball off the back of a scrum before a series of passes between Tuala, half back Auvasa Falealli, and Greentree saw Falealli score wide out to make the score line 36 – 7.
The Cockatoos were really getting on a roll, with every attacking raid by ASRU being nullified by strong defence, which resulted in turnovers and more possession. One of these turnovers saw replacement centre Andrew Barrett storm onto a short pass and be pulled down short of the line, but Josh Stewart was on hand to pick up and drive over next to posts for a converted try to take the score out to 43 – 7. ASRU were trying everything in attack and couldn’t be faulty for their commitment, and they were eventually rewarded when a lineout win ten metres from the Cockatoos line saw them construct a well executed driving maul to cross for a converted try to slightly close the scoring gap to 43 – 14.
With one resulting in their winger racing eighty metres to score a converted try make the score 43 – 21. With the match entering the final stages the Cockatoos rounded off the scoring when Josh Stewart finished off a series of pick and drives to cross for his second try to make the final score 48 – 21.
The next five minutes of the match saw ASRU take two intercepts
