Introducing VTAP: Vtiger's Low-Code Application Development Platform

Post by [email protected] »

One thing we’ve learned from the pandemic is that businesses that adapt quickly can be more successful than those that can’t. Even in normal times, processes change. In our quest to enable businesses to get more out of Vtiger, we’re excited to launch VTAP, Vtiger’s app platform.

The Vtiger Application Platform will allow you to transform Vtiger from a tool used in your company to a platform that fully meets your business needs. VTAP is a low-code platform, meaning that only limited programming knowledge is required to customize the look and feel of your CRM, create new buttons and modules, and even create third-party integrations.

Over the past few years, we have seen a shift towards Phone Number Database low-code or no-code platforms in the industry. According to Gartner, by 2024, 65% of application development will be low-code. This is largely due to the growing developer shortage in the tech industry, as well as the growing demand for additional customization of business tools.

If you're familiar with Vtiger, you probably know that we currently offer an open source version of Vtiger that allows for such customization, although it does require some in-depth coding knowledge.

VTAP will allow similar customization to be possible within our cloud platform, which requires much less programming knowledge.

VTAP is available for the following Vtiger Editions with the following limitations:

VTAP 2 Editions

* - module designer scripts
** - api designer API scripts.

If you're interested in the price or feature differences between these versions, visit our pricing and comparison sheet for more information.

VTAP offers a lot of options, and in this introduction I won't go into technical details. Instead, I'd like to focus on specific use cases for which the platform can be used. To start, our platform can be divided into two separate functions: a module builder and an API builder.

Module constructor

The module builder is the first feature of VTAP. This builder allows you to customize the Vtiger user interface to suit your business needs using HTML, CSS and Javascript. The use cases below should help you understand the specific changes that are possible with the module builder.

Use cases:

Add a button to a list or detail page
Add a custom widget to the details page
Add a button or icon to all pages
Add a customizable new page that allows you to:
Saving configuration information for a function
Show deep analytics for some custom modules
Add icon when hovering over a list view entry
Change the style of your CRM to match your website
Change the color of the buttons
Change the position of some buttons
API Builder

API Designer allows you to customize your API using VADL (Vtiger API Definition Language) to simplify integration with third-party applications.

We understand that the main goal of a CRM is to provide a complete overview of your contacts, which often includes information stored in third-party applications. We already offer a large number of both direct integrations and integrations through Zapier. The API builder extends this by allowing you to create an integration with any application that has basic authentication, a secret key-based API, or oauth360.

This feature is used in many cases, and only a few of them are listed below.

Get profile growth information from external systems such as Clearbit, FullContact or LeadGenius
Browse Slack channels and send messages from your CRM
Connect to Hubspot
Get contact weather information
Export CRM data to Google Spreadsheet
We have plans to introduce a no-code development platform in the future, but right now VTAP still has technical requirements to make the necessary changes to Vtiger. You will need knowledge of the client-side technologies mentioned earlier in the form of HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The platform offers built-in libraries such as JQuery to further simplify the coding process.

If you'd like to start using VTAP, visit our API documentation for descriptions of how to use the functions and specific code examples.
