Many WhatsApp users are faced with the annoying saving of unnecessary media files in the smartphone gallery. Let's figure out how to make sure that photos from WhatsApp are not saved on the phone automatically and why this happens at all.
how to make whatsapp photo not saved
When you download files from chats, WhatsApp displays them in the gallery along with your photos due to "visibility settings". Enabling file visibility applies to photos and videos received after selecting the settings. Old data remains in the old settings mode.
How to remove media files from your phone gallery

You can hide all photos or videos from the gallery by creating a special file ".nomedia". To do this:
— Open the file storage on your smartphone, if you don’t have it, download the free app from Google Play Market
— Find the messenger photo storage folder at: Images/WhatsApp Images/
- Create a file inside the directory called ".nomedia"
After deleting the created file, you will be able to view the photo or video in your smartphone gallery.
You can also restore chat backups in the WhatsApp directory manager. Read more here .

Disabling autosave
Visibility settings are designed to hide photos and videos without saving phone memory, as images continue to be downloaded and saved invisibly. To keep the internal memory of the device free of unnecessary data, you will need to disable auto-saving and file downloading.
— Open the mobile app
- Go to the "Data and Storage" section
clear whatsapp photo
— Select "Autoload media"
— Set the Internet connection method that will enable auto-download (WiFi, Mobile network, Roaming)
disable auto download whatsapp photos
- Disable all types of media files for each method, then autosaving will not occur
For iPhone, the settings are similar. The difference is in the "Data and Storage" section. For each type of media file, select the method for downloading it: Never, WiFi only, WiFi and Mobile network. Note that when you select "Never", you cancel the download of files, but if you start watching a video, it will immediately load for viewing and will be downloaded in the background.
Additional memory release
If you are disabling auto-saving to free up space on your smartphone, you can view and free up storage space in Whatsapp in addition to disabling photo saving. In the "Storage Management" section, delete large items from chats or frequently forwarded items. "Select All" to delete all at once, or delete individual items by long-pressing the relevant files.
Lack of sufficient free space will lead to disruption of the messenger's functioning, you will receive a notification about the need to free up space.
Removing WhatsApp media files from your gallery and freeing up phone memory is not that difficult. We hope this article helped you figure it out.
